The African buffalo or Cape buffalo (Syncerus caffer) is a large African bovine. It is not closely related to the slightly larger wild water buffalo of Asia and its ancestry remains unclear. Syncerus caffer caffer, the Cape buffalo, is the typical subspecies, and the largest one, found in South and East Africa. S. c. nanus (African forest buffalo) is the smallest subspecies, common in forest areas of Central and West Africa, while S. c. brachyceros is in West Africa and S. c. aequinoctialis is in the savannas of East Africa. Owing to its unpredictable nature, which makes it highly dangerous to humans, the African buffalo has never been domesticated, unlike its Asian counterpart, the water buffalo. Other than humans, African Cape buffaloes have few predators aside from lions and large crocodiles, and are capable of defending themselves. A conservationist who played a key role in reintroducing the eastern black rhino to Rwanda has been killed by one of the animals, a wildlife group says. Krisztián Gyöngyi was tracking animals in the Akagera National Park when he was killed, African Parks added. It did not give more details, but rhinos usually charge and kill people with their horn. Eastern black rhinos became extinct in Rwanda about a decade ago, and were reintroduced in May.

Elephant which killed 9 people is captured and sent to rehab(Photos)

An elephant that attacked and killed nine people has been captured and sent off to undergo rehabilitation. The 40-year-old male elephant has attacked and trampled villagers for three years, leaving them terrified whenever it roams nearby. The animal, captured near Attapadi Hills, in Palakkad district of Kerala, India, was taken to the Kodanad Elephant Training Centre for rehabilitation.
